Israel and Fighting Terrorism

“Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom.”

President John F. Kennedy

Middle East

Americans have long appreciated our alliance with Israel, a country whose values uniquely align with the United States, particularly for a region that struggles to enter the modern world. Only one country in this region is a functioning democracy with Western liberties, like the freedom of speech, religion, and press. Only one nation in this region has a robust free-market economy and women’s rights. That is the nation of Israel.

The world’s oldest democracy has a responsibility to support democracies everywhere, and we will not forget that responsibility to Israel. As a member of Congress, I pledge to continue US support to the Israeli economy with commerce and financial aid. I pledge to support policies and laws that continue to encourage commerce with Israel, as well as direct financial aid in the interest of Israeli security. This is particularly important as a counterbalance to the growing threat Iran poses to the stability of the region and the world.

I will work to correct the horrible missteps of the Obama Administration, which turned a blind eye to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, or directly supported them with irresponsible financial aid. We must act decisively to demand and ensure Iran’s compliance through political, and if necessary, military action. I will fight against any hint of the Boycotts, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel on American soil.

Second only to an ascendant Chinese communist regime, radical Islamic terrorism is the fundamental threat of our time. 9/11 was merely the tip of the iceberg of death and destruction that jihadists would like to visit upon those of us able to live our lives free from their tyranny. Financial aid to any country that supports jihadist terrorism, to any degree, must be shut off. Further economic measures should be taken to starve corrupt governments that use non-state actors to spread terror and death. We must continue to leverage our relationships with friendly, moderate Muslim nations so that the seed of jihadism doesn't grow there. Of paramount importance, we must shut down any financial funding stream to madrasas in the third world that lure desperate young men into becoming the suicide bombers of the future.
