“You have to realize what [the right to health care] implies. It is not an abstraction. I am a physician, that means you have a right to come to my house and conscript me. It means you believe in slavery.”
Sen. Rand Paul
Health care is an issue that hits us all on a primal level: everyone gets sick, everyone needs a doctor. It’s easy to recognize the shortcomings in our health care system, but we must also recognize there are no easy answers.
America has the most advanced health care in the world, and what isn’t perfect can best be improved by free market and private sector solutions – not through government intervention, manipulation and control. There is nothing wrong with health care in America that cannot be cured by what is right with health care in America.
Socialized medicine is not the answer, and liberal attacks on the private health care industry threaten the safety and well-being of most Americans. I will work to improve health care and control/lower costs by relying on the same free market concepts that have made most of our industries the envy of the world.
Government-mandated price controls must be rejected, as they give patients significantly worse and slower access to innovative medicines.
There must be reform in the area of Pharmaceutical Benefits Management, price transparency, drug patent reform, inter-state insurance competition, right to shop and right to try legislation, and the greater ability for practitioners to prescribe more, free from drug industry constraints and government regulations. America’s patent system – the envy of the world – must be protected. Thanks to this system, America creates about half of the world’s new drugs every year to improve quality of life
As a state legislator, I have done what’s best for doctors and patients in Utah. As a member of Congress, I will do the same. The abomination of Obamacare must be repealed and replaced. It has not helped patients, doctors, or hospitals. The only group it has helped are insurance companies, who are enjoying record profits under Obamacare.
